I’m Nellie Barnett, a certified trainer, glute specialist, and nutrition coach, and the founder of NellBells Fitness—a holistic mind-body-soul approach to strength training and personal empowerment. You may have seen me featured in Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and on the Today Show.
With over 10 years of corporate experience, I know firsthand what it’s like to balance ambition, career, and self-care. I also know how transformative strength training can be, which is why I wrote Women’s Guide to Strength Training: Dumbbells, a comprehensive 3-month program designed to help women get stronger, more confident, and more in tune with their bodies.
But before fitness became my passion, I was just like many women—I ate relatively healthy, but I wasn’t prioritizing movement in a way that truly served me. Year after year, I’d set the same goal: to “get toned.” And year after year, I saw no real change. Then something shifted.
It wasn’t just about my health anymore—it was about reclaiming my power. Strength training came into my life when I felt like everything was happening to me, and I made the decision to start making life happen for me. I committed to my goals not just to see physical results, but to prove to myself that I was capable of anything I set my mind to.
This journey changed everything. Strength training unlocked my mental resilience, helping me break through the self-imposed limitations I had once believed in. Over time, I developed a growth mindset that extended into every area of my life.
The gym became my greatest teacher—because when you think you can’t do something, and then you surprise yourself by doing it, you start to ask:

That’s the magic of strength training. It’s not just about lifting weights—it’s about lifting yourself up. I never thought I’d be able to deadlift 285 lbs, yet here I am doing it. And if I can push past my own limits, so can you.
